March Madness is Upon Us!

Here comes that magical time of the year, where dreams of many will become reality as they see and root for their favorite team onto the big stage–the Champtionship; while some people will experience the exact opposite: getting their hopes and dreams crushed… Thanks to those Cinderella Teams.

Also, you will see some luky person running naked around, in joy and pure ecstasy… why you might ask? well, one reason could be because they just won 1 Million Dollars!

Thanks to sites like fox-sports and such others, if you can get your bracket just right, and if luck be with you, you just might be that lucky fan. So, don’t be surprise if you see someone doing what’s described above.I, for one, have not participated in the $1 million bracket challenge: what a bone-headed move! Rest assured, I won’t be winning 1 million in bracket challenge this year. Had I at least given it a try, I had a shot… albeit a small one, but a probability existed none the less…. now, the probability of me winning the 1 million in bracket challenge is 0%. Oh well! I will make sure that I do not repeat this mistake next year.

That being said, I have participated in a bracket challenge at my University. As of 10:00 PM Eastern Std. Time, I was in the 2nd place:

NCAA Bracket Challenge -- Pool @ my University

NCAA Bracket Challenge -- Pool @ my University

In case you are wondering, here’s my bracket:

Tethering for some Wireless access

The day I got my HTC Touch Pro, I started messing around with it. With such phones as the Touch Pro, comes great capabilities (Such as Wifi, Remote Desktop, etc.) However, the biggest advantage is the ability to Tether your Laptop/Computer with the phone and use it as a modem. To put it in a nut-shell, Tethering allows you to connect your computer (be it Laptop/Desktop) to the phone and use it as a modem; which basically means you have access to the internet.

Now, imagine the following scenario:

You are at your local Star-bucks, getting a cup of coffee. Suddenly, you realize you needed to check your email, as a prospective employer would be sending you important “interview” related information.

Sure, you can configure your cellphone to receive emails and such, but it’s a pain to do any sort of communication over that device because of it’s qwerty keyboard (the size, that is). Granted, some are very good at this… me? I use only if I must. So in such a case, you would pop-out your laptop, and try  to connect to the internet, only to find out that Star-buck’s WiFi isn’t actually free (at least in my area it isn’t).

So, if you know how to tether your computer to the phone, you will be in the clear. If you haven’t already tried this out, follow my step-by-step guide found here: Tethering 101: Get Wi-Fi Access from your HTC Touch Pro.

I did it it and I am pleasantly surprised at the Connection Speed Test Results. Well, once my laptop was tethered, I went to the following site to perform the speed test: SPEEDTEST.NET and selected the configuration and ran the test. This is what it outputted:

Am I happy? I am ecstatic! My connection was faster than 47% of the people in the WORLD, and at least 35% of the people in the US. (the 12% discrepancy speaks to the advancement of the US… but that topic/discussion will be reserved for some other day).

Here are the links provided to me by SPEEDTEST.NET:

Lost My Cell Phone: An Incredible, Light-at-the-end-of-the-Tunnel Experience!

As some of you might know, I am a Community Assistant (previously known as “Resident Assistant) at the University of Connecticut. So, on February 20th, 2009, I was on duty. Now, the duty here at UConn works as follows (currently, pending further changes): A CA must do one round on the weekdays (Sun-Wed) @10, and two rounds on the weekends (Thu-Sat) @11 and @1. We are told to fluctuate +- 15 minutes… just to keep the residents guessing at our exact arrival times. So, in any event, here I was: Ready for my 2nd round of the cold night. I gear up: wear my jacket, carry my CA bag, get the masters, and finally I make the call to my fellow CA and ask her to be ready for the second round.

At precisely 12:40 I call her for the 2nd round, she answers in the affirmative, I hang up the phone and put it in its holster, and place it on my hip…. that’s the last time I had physical contact with my cell-phone. Then, I leave my place and meet my fellow CA at her residence and we leave for the rounds. 20 minutes later, once the rounds were finished, I get back to my place. Generally, every night at precisely 1:50 AM, I call home (provided, I am still awake), as my Dad comes back from work at that time. So, that night, being not any different, I reach out for my cell-phone and to my surprise I couldn’t find it. I looked everywhere in my room… no trace of it! I panicked!! Fearing, what my father would say/do to me if he were to find out that I lost my $400+ phone!!

We CA’s have a “duty phone”: So I tried calling my cell-phone from it. For the 1st try, it rang 5 times and went straight to the voice mail… My thoughts were “Good… This is a good sign! Now, at least I can track it!” Whilst it rang, I looked all over my room first (thinking, it could have been here and overlooked when I performed the search), but didn’t hear the phone ring in my room at all. So I called it again: the second time through, it went straight to voice mail. This, literally, pissed me off! First thought that came to mind: “Someone has my phone!!!” Regardless, I called it again, and again, and again, and again… (you get the idea).

Who didn’t want to witness history?

Some travelled from very far, just to say (to their children/grand children etc) that they were “there” when the history was made. Unfortunately, I cannot say that. I was stuck here, in connecticut–at the University of Connecticut (if you really cared to know). However, I didn’t want to be someone who completely missed out on this historical event! When my children (probably 5-10 years down the road)–or anyone for that matter–were to ask me “So, where were you when the History was made?” I dont want to say, “I was busy” or “Working on some project” or “Reading articles on Wikipedia / Checking out Digg”

So, I made up my mind… if I physically cannot be there in Washington, I will be there “remotely” ;)

[Be Sure to Refer to the "Short History" section at the end of the note]

The Note

Here it is, in all it’s glory:

It’s been a long time coming. I know. To tell you the truth though, if it weren’t for the snow, I would not be writing this.

So, guess what day it is… ahh who am I asking. Everyone knows that today is the Valentine’s Day….

For Guys:
It’s a day to give gifts, flowers, or EVERYTHING that is worth giving—including (but not limited to) time, attention, and lots of love—to your woman.

Speaking of attention: don’t be a moron. Listen to her. Pay attention to every detail… she just might quiz you at the end of the conversation to see if you’ve been paying attention. You do not want to get caught not paying attention… Trust me… she will get mad.

It’s not just today, by the way. Pay attention to her every time she says something. It shows that you respect her and respect what she has to say.

Relationship…. My take on it.

Short History

I am in the process of, albeit slowly, moving out of Facebook, so I figured I transfer all of my so-called “notes” to my permanent home–here. This is the first part of multi-part take on Relationships, in general. Surely, I have learned quite a lot about relationships since 2006–from observations as well as personal experiences. However, this had to be published as it was found to maintain it’s authenticity. Furthermore, this whole topic of relationships is a vast and deep abyss. My note does not even scratch the surface, I know; so please consider my writing on this topic as mere observation(s) and nothing more.

“Note”, written on Facebook, titled “Relationship…. My take on it.”, dated: Sunday, October 15, 2006 at 9:02pm.

The Note

Here it is, in all it’s glory:

A recent activity led me to think about this subject, and the result of it was this Article. (or “Note” as facebook defines it)

People now-a-days, say “I am in Love”. To that I say, Bull shit, you are merely “attracted” to each other. [Another word is "Infatuation"].

Sure there are true lovers that will go on to marry their College sweethearts (or even highschool sweethearts). But they account for a very small percentage of the population as a whole.
